Origin

When Larry Trainor broke a whole in the radiation field, he broke the first rule of the Negative Space: do not interfere with the Negative Space. As penance, Larry was bonded to a Keeg Bovo, one of many Negative Spirits. Keeg is suppose to receive direction from Larry as an agent of balance. Unfortunately, during Doom Patrol's time on Oolong Island, Larry was abducted by aliens and forcibly separated from Keeg and returned to Earth. Keeg sought Larry out and brought him back to the Negative Space so that they could be re-bonded. Because Larry cooperated, agreeing to be in service, the people of the Negative Space were moved by his sacrifice. They adjusted the relationship between Larry and the Keeg so that Keeg was able to better communicate with his host.

Creation

Keeg Bovo has technically been the Negative Spirit for Negative Man's entire run, however, he wasn't revealed as such until Doom Patrol (2016) #2 by Gerard Way and Nick Derrington

Major Story Arcs

Toxic Positivity

Larry was suspicious if Keeg was ever really the Negative Spirit or if he had simply compartmentalized his own negativity so well that his shadow self took on a life of his own. When he started denying his negative side, he got, in his words, toxically positive. This hurt Keeg so much that he seemed to disappear returning the negative spirit to its original form.

Other Media

An energy being possessing Larry Trainor appears in the DC streaming service, however, not much is known of him yet.
