Origin

Shub-Niggurath is an Outer God in the Cthulhu Mythos created by H.P. Lovecraft. She is known as a god of fertility and appears before others as a gigantic mass of black tentacles and mouths with numerous teeth and slime dripping out the sides. She is also said to have small, stubby goat legs and to be almost entirely shrouded in enormous clouds. Little creatures are continuously spat out from Shub-Niggurath's various mouths and are either consumed again or left to run off to another hideous creature. It is hypothesized that she dwells at the court of Azathoth at the center of the universe or underneath the planet Yaddith being served by the Dholes. But it is also possible she resides in a completely different universe.

Cult of Shub-Niggurath

Shub-Niggurath is the most worshiped of all gods in the Cthulhu Mythos. She is worshiped by the Sarnath, the Hyperboreans, the Muvians and all sorts of barbarian cults across the world. She is also worshipped on other planets by lifeforms - namely the Nug-Soth of Yaddith and the Mi-Go from Yuggoth. It is said by cults of Shub-Niggurath that she can be summoned to any sort of wooded area at the time of the new moon with the proper artifacts, but it is unknown where in the woods she will appear.

Shub-Niggurath's Offspring

It is said that Shub-Niggurath mated with Hastur the Unspeakable One in order to give birth to Ithaqua, Lloigor and Zhar. It is also speculated that she mated with Yog-Sothoth to create Nug and Yeb and also Byatis in order to create Yig.

However, it is crystal clear that Shub-Niggurath gives birth to horrible, coal-black monsters called the Dark Young of Shub-Niggurath. The young appear to be made out of winding tentacles and are about as tall as trees, standing on short, stubby legs. Tentacles spawn out of their tops and green goo covers their sides. It is said that the Dark Young of Shub-Niggurath smell like rotting corpses and that they wander in woods when cults of Shub-Niggurath worship her. They are often summoned to look over ceremonies by use of the Book of Eibon, which requires a blood sacrifice. The ritual can only be done in the middle of the woods at the darkest of the moon and the victim must be sacrificed upon a stone altar. The Dark Young appear to accept the sacrifice in the name of Shub-Niggurath, devouring those who do not worship her and spreading their mother's fame across the planets she is worshiped on.

Gof'nn hupadgh Shub-Niggurath

The gof'nn hupadgh Shub-Niggurath are favored worshipers of Shub-Niggurath who were once mortal. If Shub-Niggurath believes a devoted worshiper to be worthy of her gift, a ceremony is held by her in which she swallows the chosen one whole and regurgitates him as a transformed entity blessed with immortality and changed in shape to look like a satyr.

Powers and Abilities

Being an Outer God, Shub-Niggurath is exceptionally powerful by default, though she has not been shown to combat others. Still, she is by default more powerful than the Great Cthulhu. Shub-Niggurath can bless those she deems worthy with immortality.
