Torture is defined as inflicting physical or psychological pain on a person, normally to gather information. As in any other medium, it is often used in comics.

Some of the most notable issues involving torture include Batman: The Killing Joke by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland and The Walking Dead #33 by Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard (which made it one of the most controversial issues of the series).
