Years ago, the Rannian scientist Sardath developed a ray designed to communicate with alien lifeforms across vast distances known as a Zeta-Beam, this ray initially created to permit interstellar commune which became infused with radioactive energy instead evolved into a teleportation device with a reach of trillions of lightyears and even to other realities, be it accidentally or purposely. The beam reached the planet Earth where it struck archaeologist Adam Strange, transporting him twenty-five trillion miles through space to the planet, Rann. Sardath explained to Adam that once the Zeta-Beam radiation wears off, he would instantly teleport back to his point of origin, but in later years it was refined such that the teleportation was permanent (until Adam Strange desired to leave again). This augmented variation was called the Mega Zeta Beam where the radioactivity which kept the user grounded, stuck with them until said individual wished to be ported back to their point of origin via zeta beaming again.

To counter those who would use Zeta-Beam technology for personal gain, Sardath also developed a Nega-Zeta-Beam ray. In recent years the Zeta Beam technology had been upgraded repeatedly, the port device called the Zeta Beam Module is a compressed model drone for users who're on the move. The devices can programmed with coordinates to traverse just about any distance, even across dimensions if properly tempered. Adam boasted the modules are programmed to the genetic key of its designated users and if tampered with by outside parties will cause it to self-destruct. Though this was an embellishment on his part as he copped his off of two bounty hunters who were after him.

Sardath later invented a gigantic and far more powerful version of the transport system dubbed The Omega Beam. utilizing a system powered by Zero-Point Energy It was so powerful that he hid it away because the Omega could teleport entire planetary systems across the galaxy or other dimesnions by converting matter into energy and back. Sh'ri Valkyr sought to use the device to trigger an omega event in order appease her malefic god; The Luciphage, that he might absorb the entire universe, using the Omega Beam to convert it into absorbable galaxian energy. The device is highjacked by in the end by Valkyr to transport Rann into the same orbit as Thanagar before destroying the device. The sudden appearance of Rann and the subsequent alteration of Thanagar's orbit leads the Thanagarians to consider it an act of war. The conflict leads to the Rann-Thanagar War.
