Origin

Cadre K is a group of Skrull mutants (really "k-class deviant skrulls") who fought to rescue their kind from being culled at birth, agitated for mutant rights.  Roster includes Fiz, Goroth, Nuro, R'Tee, Spunje and Zcann, all with various powers.  Founded and initially mentored by Professor Xavier of the X-Men. On Carplax IV, where skrull Lord Merrek's fecundity-supplement programs apparently resulted in a higher percentage of mutant births, Cadre K battled Dakr't, Trl'k and the Purifiers to rescue the X-Men.

Creation

Cadre K was created by Kurt Busiek and Jerry Ordway in 2000 and first appeared in Maximum Security Dangerous Planet # 1.
