Origin

Thor is a member of the Protectorate, a powerful group of superheroes that have frequently saved the Earth and reality itself multiple times. Thor is considered one of the more powerful members of the group, alongside Zeitgeist and the Professor, and Thor is also considered the most powerful physical member. The rest of their numbers include flying warrior White Bird, the technology affiliated Technocrat, the computer enhanced Nightfighter and Citydweller who has an affinity and connection to cities. The Protectorate exist to protect, when things need protection. They operate out of a subspace location known as the Foldcastle which grants them to be anywhere they need at a moments notice.

Creation

Thor is a Marvel comics published character created by Steven Grant, Warren Ellis and Ariel Olivetti. Thor first appears in the X-Man series in the issue X-Man series, specifically issue X-Man #71 - Fearful Symmetries Part 1. Thor is a member of the Protectorate, that team also created by Steven Grant, Warren Ellis and Ariel Olivetti. The Peoples Protectorate bare an uncanny resemblance to Wildstorm comics Authority team and book, with each member being a parallel of an Authority team character. Given that Warren Ellis created many of both and was involved in both teams creations, the parallels aren't as unoriginal as one could accuse the characters of being.

The analogues of character exist as follows. Nightfighter and Midnighter, Thor to Apollo, Professor X and the Doctor, White Bird to Swift, Citydweller and Jack Hawksmoor, Technocrat to the Engineer, Nicola Zeitgeist and Jenny Sparks.

Character Evolution

This pages Thor despite sharing a name with Marvel's most popular and biggest thunder god and Asgardian Thor, seemingly has no connection or relationship with the Stan Lee and Jack Kirby adapted character. There are similarities as far as both characters possessing super strength, flight abilities, fabulous long flowing hair and being the powerhouse of their respect teams, but this version of Thor actually pays homage and is an analogue of Apollo, Apollo incidentally a homage to DC's premier superhero Superman.

Major Story Arcs

The Burning Tiger Qabiri

Thor and his team Protectorate encounter the mysterious inter-dimensional interloper Qabiri of the Shining City. Qabiri had set New York ablaze killing all its seven million citizens. Citydweller, Nightfighter, White Bird and Technocrat would be first to confront Qabiri, but their attempts to subdue him would fail, Qabiri manhandling the quartet with his power. Respite would come as Thor, Zeitgeist and Nate Xavier would arrive, the power of the team. Qabiri would leave suddenly, confusing the Protectorate, but Thor and the Professor would follow him.

Powers and Abilities

Thor possesses incredible physical strength and power, the power of flight, and flight at supersonic speeds, incredible durability and resistance to physical injury. Thor is resistant to extreme heat and harsh cold. Thor can fly in and withstand the vacuum of space. Thor is extremely fast. There is a limit to Thor's power however as demonstrated when the uber powerful Qabiri kills the powerhouse with his energy forcefield.
